I grew up eating biscuits at least twice a week with dinner. It was our bread of choice. Growing up in a family of 6, these biscuits helped ensure everyone at the table had something they were excited to eat and made sure everyone left with a full tummy. The topping choices are endless! Try them with strawberry jam, honey, or my favorite, ribbon cane syrup mixed with a little softened butter.

These biscuits also make great breakfast sandwiches! Try adding bacon and a fried egg for a breakfast sandwich that is half the price of the drive thru and way more delicious. Double the batch to have biscuits for breakfast a couple times this week, and you will thank me later!
Southern Style Biscuits
Ingredients
2 Tablespoons canola oil
2 cups all purpose flour
1 Tablespoon white sugar
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup cold butter
¾ cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450℉.
- Pour canola oil into your cast iron skillet, or other heavy bottomed 8 inch skillet. Can also use a cake pan or pie plate if necessary.
- In a medium bowl mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter with a pastry blender or two forks until butter resembles oatmeal flakes.
- Stir in milk. Dough should slightly sticky, but holds together in a shaggy ball.
- Flour your work surface: can be a large cutting board, clean countertop, or cheese cloth.
- Dump mixture onto work surface and knead dough, sprinkle more flour on top of dough as needed to make it easier to work with. Knead dough for 2 minutes.
- Make 2 inch balls of dough and place in your prepared pan. It’s okay for them to touch a bit.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned on the top of your biscuits.
