Easy Steamed Carrot Hack

My preschooler has been into baby carrots and hummus lately. It’s been her go to snack, and I am for it. Does anyone else feel like supermom when their kid eats a vegetable dipped into another vegetable?

The only problem is that my toddler always want what everyone else is having. In theory, this is great! The only roadblock is when the food is a choking hazard: popcorn, baby carrots, and chips are usual suspects.

One way I’ve found to keep things easy is to simply steam whatever raw vegetable everyone else is having in the microwave. This has been a game changer. It helps me keep healthy snacks on hand for everyone, without having to think through and prep four different snack options for everyone in the family.

If you haven’t discovered this microwave hack, you’re welcome.

Easy Steamed Carrots

5-6 baby carrots

2 Tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Place baby carrots and water in small microwave safe bowl.
  2. Microwave on high for 5-10 minutes, or until soft enough to squeeze between your fingers.
  3. Let cool, and serve.

Note: if your toddler is still learning how to eat most solids, try cutting the baby carrots into quarters lengthwise.
