Hi everyone! I’m Katie, creator of True Family Food. I teach children’s culinary courses, and I post the yummy recipes I create and use in class here for you! Here’s a little bit about me:
I grew up in southeast Texas an hour from Louisiana and an hour from the Gulf Coast, which means I love bold flavors and seafood! I grew up with three older brothers, a Weimaraner, and four cats. I spent most of my time on the soccer field, but I always loved the afternoons spent in the kitchen with my mom. With so many siblings, it was one of the only times I got her to myself, and this made the kitchen feel like a very special place. I attended Texas A&M University and received a degree in Nutritional Sciences. I was a Nutrition Counselor for the WIC program for many years after graduation. I ran three WIC clinics where I provided nutrition counseling for moms to be, new moms, and children under the age of 5. I was the Area Nutrition Education Specialist, which means I instructed the nutrition instructors and came up with fun games to make nutrition fun for kids.
I got married, relocated to one of the greatest food cities in the country, and went to work for Second Harvest Food Bank in New Orleans running one of the Cooking Matters programs. I fell in love with cooking instruction, received more culinary training, and have been teaching cooking ever since. If you are interested in broadening your child’s food horizons, I have found that making food taste yummy to children is way more convincing than just knowing it is good for you.
I have lived in Colorado five years now, and I absolutely love it! I have three children and a husband that love helping me test my recipes.
