Introducing a liked food cooked in a different way can be a great way to increase flexibility in eating. Flexibility is a good thing! It means they will learn that trying new foods can be safe and fun.
If your kiddo is used to seeing canned corn, throwing it on the grill can be a easy, fun new food experience for them. It takes very minimal prep work and gets a big wow factor. Between the corn still being on the cob, the grill marks on the corn, and a few husks still left for them to investigate and peel off, grilled corn is such an activity at dinner. Getting them just to play with it is a positive exposure and can leave to a willingness to try sometime in the future. Smearing butter on the hot corn can be a fun exposure for kiddos as well. It really entertained my four year old to see it melt into all the little creases. It also makes the corn taste yummy, creates satiation, and helps them absorb fat soluble vitamins.

This corn is really great leftover tossed into salad of stirred into an aioli. Simply use a sharp knife to cut the kernels off the cob.
Easy Grilled Corn
Ingredients
5 corn cobs in husk
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
butter, for serving
Instructions
- Dehusk corn. Pull off most of the husks, leaving just one or two for added flair and exploration at dinner.
- Remove as much silk (little strings around corn) as possible from corn.
- Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with spices.
- Preheat grill on high for 2-5 minutes. Once hot, brush grill with oil (I use cheap canola for this) using metal tongs and a bunched up paper towel.
- Place corn on grill and cook until charred on all sides, about ten minutes. Serve hot, with butter to smear on.
